MARK RICHARDS FRBS Sculptor. Pietrasanta

In 2012, I was fortunate to receive the Mercer Award. This offers a 3 month residency at Studio Sem in Pietrasanta, Italy. The Award is designed to provide established sculptors, working in materials other than stone, the opportunity to discover the expressive possibilities of marble. This blog is a record of my time in Pietrasanta.

Relief panel 1

Post dated: 28th November 2012

I am cutting the relief panel this week.  Using the plaster cast as a guide, I work out the depths in the stone and begin cutting.

I refine the planes as the piece progresses
